Blurb Example 1

Rewrite of The Hunger Games:

The odds are ever in your favor.
Except when they’re not.

Katniss Everdeen lives in a harsh world, one ruled by tyrannical upper class elite in post-apocalyptic North America now known as Panem. The districts outside the Capitol are poor, living hand-to-mouth and are terrorized by the legacy of the 13th District’s rebellion and resulting destruction.

As punishment, wicked entertainment, and proof of the Capitol’s power over those who dare to rebel, a lottery is imposed on the Districts. Every year, each District must yield one boy and one girl as ‘Tributes’ to participate in the Hunger Games, a blood-thirsty televised event that pits Tribute against Tribute, and leaves only one winner standing.

Katniss, 16 years old, has been mentally preparing herself for the worst. She’s analyzed the odds and is convinced her time has come. But she doesn’t expect the worst to be her baby sister, Prim. When she hears Prim’s name, her world collapses.

Being selected as Tribute is a death sentence for all but the strongest. There are those who have trained their whole lives to fight in the Hunger Games. They are Tributes that are proud of their warrior status. Her little sister Prim is no warrior. In desperation, Katniss offers herself up to take her sister’s place. When her sacrifice is accepted, she joins Peeta, her male counterpart, and sets off for a twisted battle against all the other District warriors. Survival of the fittest begins, and only one can return home.

Original of The Hunger Games:

Winning will make you famous.
Losing means certain death.

The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, is a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol region surrounded by 12 poorer districts. Early in its history, a rebellion led by a 13th district against the Capitol resulted in its destruction and the creation of an annual televised event known as the Hunger Games. In punishment, and as a reminder of the power and grace of the Capitol, each district must yield one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 through a lottery system to participate in the games. The ‘tributes’ are chosen during the annual Reaping and are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one survivor to claim victory.

When 16-year-old Katniss’s young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. , she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.
